May is the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Month
God chose Mary to be the mother of the Son of God. “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. You have found favor with God. You shall conceive and bear a son and give him the name Jesus. Great will be his dignity and he will be called the Son of the Most High.” Luke 1:28-31
Mary gave her life totally to God. “I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to Your Will.” Luke 1:38
Like all our mothers Mary gave her child, Jesus, the Son of God the gift of life. She nourished him from her own body, warmed him with her embrace, she sang lullabies to him, bathed him, taught him, loved him completely
Mary is, as the angel said “Full of Grace.” Luke 1:28 Grace is the life and the love of God. There was no room for sin in her life. We believe as Catholics that she was preserved by a special privilege that we call the Immaculate Conception from all sin.
She is the temple, the vessel, the tabernacle of Jesus. The Bible is full of how careful and holy and undefiled must be the Temple of the Lord. Mary was a Living Temple.
Jesus loved her. He loved her so much that he gave her to be our mother from the Cross. We like the beloved disciple John have taken her into our home, our church, our hearts.
We believe that is important to pray to Mary, to ask her to intercede with God, and with her Son, Jesus as she did at Cana. (Wedding Feast at Cana John 2:1-12 )
We ask people in our community to pray for us when we need strength. Mary is Mother of the Church. From the earliest days after the Ascension the disciples gathered together. “Together they devoted themselves to constant prayer. There were some women in their company, and Mary the mother of Jesus.” Acts 1:14.
Mary was there before the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. She was one who understood the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit.
“The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you, hence your offspring to be born will be called holy, the Son of the Most High God.” Luke 1:35
